Host An Event

Hosting an event to benefit HFOT is a great way to bring your community members together in support of a good cause! Whether you are thinking of planning a backyard BBQ, renting out a dance hall, or rolling out the red carpet for a fancy soiree, ticketed events are some of our most popular events. Make sure your guests enjoy their evening by adding some awesome music or top entertainment.

Tip: Guests love prizes! Make sure to get a variety of raffle and/or auction items that fit your expected crowd. Local businesses are a great place to start when looking for raffle/auction donations or event sponsorships that help highlight their business.

Hog Roast

Mark your calendars for the first Saturday of every August, when Peggy and Jim Fassett throw a hog roast like you wouldn’t believe. People come from all over, pull up their lawn chairs, and enjoy some really good food while listening to a local band on the gorgeous Fassett family farm in Mendon, MI. Believe it or not, the majority of the attendees do not personally know the Fassett family but hear about the event from friends that have attended. Last year’s event had close to 500 people in attendance. Peggy says the generosity that she has seen over the past eight years is why she keeps doing it. Last year a man drove an hour to her house to drop of a donation because he was going to be out of town the day of the roast. Talk about dedication!

GALA

Looking to throw a gala or fancy soiree? Roll out the red carpet and give your attendees an opportunity to dress up and have a night out on the town. Make sure to highlight Homes For Our Troops by making a presentation during the evening program so attendees can learn more about the needs of our organization and how to help. Ask your donors to make direct contributions, donate a portion of the event ticket sales, and add in silent and live auctions to give your guests even more opportunities to give to Homes For Our Troops.

Party

There’s nothing like a Kentucky Derby Party to get your clients and colleagues together in one room to have some fun for a great cause! Ben Perrotta and Kate Richard of Ben and Kate Real Estate throw a networking event like no other. With little touches like best crazy hat contests, mint juleps, and horse racing-themed activities, your party will surely get conversations flowing. Include a silent auction and ask your attendees to make a donation to your chosen charity to raise even more funds at the event.

Comedy/Trivia Night

For a number of years, South Shore Realtors® (the second largest Realtor® Trade Association in Massachusetts) hosted various fundraising events in support of HFOT’s Massachusetts builds. Their events have included a trivia night, talent show, and most recently a comedy night. They invite association members and the public to come armed with raffle money, snacks, and to be prepared to enjoy an evening of entertainment orchestrated by the Association’s Community Service Committee. In addition to providing the American Dream of homeownership, Realtors® give back to the communities they live and work in through volunteerism and fundraising. “Homes For Our Troops is such a great an easy organization to work with and raise funds for. Our sense of duty to support Veterans is strong because we all know someone currently serving or have friends or family in the military,” says Jean Sawtelle, South Shore Realtors® Communications Director.
